How can I take a card payment over the phone

Settle invoices by charging a payment to your customer's card.

Collecting card information for over-the-phone payments is a user-friendly way to settle invoices. Read on to learn the required steps as well as how card information can be pre-saved to further streamline the payment process.

Please note, you must always seek the customer's consent before charging their card. They will be notified by email upon charge.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Click 'Invoices' on the left-hand dashboard.

  2. Select the invoice to be paid. If no invoice has been made, you will need to create one now. Learn how here.

  3. Click 'Charge customer card'.

  4. Input payment amount.

  5. Select the customer card to be used in the transaction. If no saved cards exist for the customer, see step 6.

  6. For customers without saved cards, fill in the card information.

  7. Confirm that your customer has agreed to the charge and click 'Charge customer' to process the payment.

  8. The card will be saved to the customer's profile for future use.


Creating a customer card ahead of time

  1. On the left-hand dashboard, select 'Customers'.

  2. Under payment methods, select 'Card', then '+ New card'.

  3. Input card information and click 'Add'.

4. The card is now saved to the customer's profile for future use.
