How to resolve your failed payment error

If your payment failed, you can see why it did so and how you can resolve it in this article.

When you receive a failed payment, you will see what the error code is. Identify which error code you received corresponding to the following charts, and see "Recourse" for resolution options.

Transfer of funds from account to card failed.

Reattempt with updated card info or alternate method.

InsufficientFunds

Originating account did not have enough balance.

Low balance at time of debit.

Request alternate payment or retry after deposit.

AccountClosed

Account has been closed.

Customer/vendor closed the account.

Obtain updated bank account details.

NoAccount

Account number does not exist.

Incorrect account or routing details.

Verify and correct account information.

CorporateCustomerAdvisesNotAuthorized

Corporate customer claims debit was unauthorized.

Debit not permitted or authorization not valid.

Stop debits, obtain new authorization or resolve dispute.

Refund/credit canceled before settlement.

DEBIT_FAILED

Retry or request alternate payment.

EXPIRED

Authorization expired before settlement.

Merchant delay or network timeout.

Re-run transaction.

UNKNOWN

Unclassified error.

Network issue or unrecognized code.

Retry or escalate to processor.

CREDIT_CARD_REFUND

Refund issued to card.

Customer return or adjustment.

Inform customer timeline (5–10 days).

CREDIT_CARD_DISPUTE_ACCEPTED

Dispute/chargeback ruled in favor of cardholder.

Fraud, duplicate billing, or service issue.

Provide documentation for appeal.

PURCHASE_RETURNED

Original purchase reversed.

Fraud, duplicate, or dispute.

Review logs, reattempt if valid.

REFUND

Generic refund.

Customer request or adjustment.

Confirm settlement with processor.
